Oscar Mike Foundation Hike

Embracing the Beauty of Colorado Trails with Disabled Veterans: My Journey with the Oscar Mike Foundation

Hiking the picturesque trails of Colorado is an unforgettable experience, but when you do it with a group of Disabled Veterans from the Oscar Mike Foundation, it becomes so much more than just a hike. As a former military personnel, having served in the 3/61 Cav 4IBCT, 4ID, and 984th MP Company 759th MP Battalion, with a focus on anti-terrorism, my journey with the foundation was both humbling and inspiring. In this blog post, I'd like to share my unforgettable experience and my commitment to serving Colorado Veterans as I run for the position of County Commissioner, District 4.

The Oscar Mike Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to support injured and disabled Veterans by keeping them active and engaged through various adaptive sports and recreational activities. "Oscar Mike" is military jargon for "On the Move," and the foundation truly lives up to its name. I had the privilege to be a part of their hiking program, which aims to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and camaraderie among Veterans who face unique challenges.

The Breathtaking Colorado Trails:

Colorado is renowned for its stunning landscapes, from snow-capped mountains to lush forests and winding trails. Exploring these natural wonders with a group of remarkable individuals made the experience even more profound. The trails we hiked were carefully selected to accommodate all levels of physical abilities, ensuring that everyone could participate and feel the joy of being connected to nature.

During our hikes, I was deeply moved by the sense of brotherhood and camaraderie among the participants. Veterans from various branches of the military, each with their own story of service and sacrifice, came together as a united front. The challenges they faced on the trails were a testament to their resilience and determination, inspiring everyone around them.

A Journey of Reflection:

As we hiked through the Colorado wilderness, I couldn't help but reflect on my own time in the military. Memories of service, camaraderie, and the commitment to a higher purpose flooded my mind. It was a reminder of why I chose to run for County Commissioner, District 4. I realized that my service doesn't have to end with the military; I can continue to serve my fellow Veterans and the community right here in Colorado.

Committed to Serving Colorado Veterans:

My experience with the Oscar Mike Foundation has solidified my commitment to serving the needs of Colorado Veterans. The challenges faced by our brave men and women in uniform do not end with their military service, and it's crucial that we, as a community, extend a helping hand to support their transition back to civilian life. If elected as County Commissioner, District 4, I pledge to advocate for programs and resources that will benefit our Veterans, including increased access to healthcare, mental health support, job training, and educational opportunities.

Hiking the breathtaking Colorado trails with Disabled Veterans from the Oscar Mike Foundation was an unforgettable experience. It opened my eyes to the resilience of our Veterans and the importance of continued support for their well-being. My journey with the foundation has fueled my passion to serve Colorado Veterans in a new capacity, as County Commissioner, District 4. Together, let us make a difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Vote Karl Dent for Colorado, County Commissioner, District 4, and let's build a brighter future for our community and our Veterans.
